Optomap Retinal Imaging
An optomap scan provides your doctor with a view of approximately 82% of your retina in a single capture and helps your doctor to evaluate your visual health. Many eye problems can develop without warning and progress with no symptoms. Early on, you might not even notice any changes in your vision. However, diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal tears or detachments, as well as other health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure can be detected with a thorough exam of the retina.
Optomap Retinal Exam provides:
- Scan can confirm a healthy eye or, detect the presence of disease.
- An overview or map of the retina, giving your doctor a more detailed view that can be achieved by other means.
- The opportunity for you to view and discuss the optomap images of your eye with your doctor at the time of your exam.
- A permanent record for your medical record enabling your doctor to make important comparisons if potential problems show themselves at a future exam.
Retinal Imaging
As a part of your comprehensive eye examination, you will have the option to have the back of the eye (the retina) digitally imaged. With this technology, the doctor has the ability to view in detail, various structures of the retina including the optic nerve, blood vessels, nerve fiber, and the macula. It can show abnormalities that may threaten normal vision and greatly aid our ability to accurately diagnose and document many diseases. Retinal imaging done on healthy and normal eyes can also serve as a baseline for comparison at future visits when the doctor may suspect development of new disease within the eye.
Retinal imaging does not require the eyes be dilated and can be done on nearly all ages of patients.
